Fire Mark Richt, Fire Willie Martinez, Fire Somebody!
Despite the fact that Mark Richt has led UGA to three SEC East titles and two SEC championships, he needs to go or he needs to fire some people on his coaching staff. We went on an improbable run last year with stellar defensive play, big plays from our offense, and just surperb coaching from Mark Richt. Now, this year, the UGA program reverted at least eight years back to the Donnan era, at best, or even worse to the Ray “Goof” era. We are unable to play with the big boys; we barely beat the inferior opponents in our conference; the teams that we clearly beat are mediocre; we find excuse after excuse for our miserable play.
The reason that Mark Richt was hired was to bring UGA football back to the national promience that it had during the 1980’s. However, it is clear after seven years that the only thing that UGA football is capable of doing year in, year out is to compete for the SEC East title. Other than that, we are still the mediocre team from the 1990s. The only way that UGA can change this is to fire the incompetent parts of our coaching staff and spend the money necessary to bring in the talented coaches that can make UGA a national contender once again.
Plus, Mr. King at DawgSports.com, describes in better detail what is wrong with Martinez as defensive co-ordindator. His article can be read here.

naw huff you dont know what you are talking about the only thing Georgia needs is Brian Vangorder back. When he was there that defense was one of the best in the country. They stayed in the top 10. i agree with you on Martinez.
I’m reading these posts with 20-20 hindsight. What a difference a year makes…NOT.
CWM has been awful since the WVU game. I have had it and will not renew my long-term tix in March unless there’s a shakeup. Is Richt aware this is a huge dollar program and not a mission trip. I am so mad not just by the results today but even more so the idea from Richt that all is well. They all need to beat it, form a Bible study group at a place I know of in Guyana, and I’ll provide the Kool Ade powder. So pissed with the “good Christian” crap not allowing firing, demotion or benching of coaches or players
Play your best players under your best coaches. Otherwise. head off and sing CumBaya in a drum circle. I spend too much money for 3-3. which easily could be 1-5 or 0-6. F this!@!
I agree that the most distressing thing about the state of UGA football is that the coaching staff feels that nothing is wrong. I don’t think it Richt’s Christian background that is causing this problem, but his emphasis (too much so, in my opinion) on loyalty to his coaching staff.
Donzell,
They all go to Sunday school and church together. I know this is a huge reason he refuses to fire or demote those bozos. Also his Christian values keep him from making necessary comments to his players and coaches.
The posts alleging that Coach Richt’s faith negatively impacting his ability to carry out his coaching responsibilities are nonsense. This program was maligned before Richt arrived, almost instantly he and his Christian values brought it back to prominence. I do agree that changes are need, I’m looking at you, Willie. However, I do not agree with the attacks on Coach Richt’s means of mentoring these student athletes. Saturday was embarrassing, but Richt’s body of work is that of a great coach. I would not trade the Mark Richt era for anything any other coach has achieved over the same time period. With Richt in control, win or lose, I am proud of the way the University of Georgia football program is being operated. Richt’s philosophy aims to achieve a goal bigger than football; we should all be so ambitious.
Please, dear god, add Bobo to the list. If we run another end-around sweep at 3rd and 15 – b/c our defense is so good – I’m going to eat paint chips. Willie’s a high school coach, no more. Awful. Just awful.
Let’s not forget that Matinez’s was a SOCCOR coach before Richt came along. And Bobo was an assistant’s assistant. Now they are entrusted with the entire U.G.A. program. By itself Richt should be fired. But for arguments sake, if he doesn’t fire them two then he (Richt) needs to be fired.
Richt is a good person, but his time at UGA has come. We are not competing on a national level. He is too nice to bench Cox, who is soo sub par it’s not even funny. Arron Murry should have seen the field this year.
Any coach that had Stafford and Moreno and brought home no titles in that time ,and now with this year…deserves to go.
Mark Richt is doing fine. Martinez needs the boot!
After that game last night, I think it is time that Richt needs to feel the fire, if not the axe.
If Richt is such a “good Christian” why doesn’t he remember that Thou shall not steal. Which is what he is doing when he takes his millions for trying to impersonate a coach. Let him go coach at some private one A Christian college where he can coach against competition he can beat.
While I am angry with Richt’s performance as coach over the last few years, it is silly or nonsensical to impugn his religious beliefs. The problem that Richt has is that he is too loyal to his coaching staff, despite overwhelming evidence that they are incompetent.
